Fall Fashion

Fall is definitely making its entrance as the days get shorter and the nights get longer. In California, there’s a visible difference as every morning when I wake up at 6:00 am to get ready for school, I blearily check my phone a few times to make sure it really is 6:00 am and not the middle of the night. If I had to choose a favorite season, I would definitely choose fall! I love windy weather, baggy sweaters, soft scarves that hug your neck all day, and the warm and toasty home cuisine that you get to experience every year, so I’ll definitely be making a few more posts about AUTUMN, the best season of the year, very soon!

One key difference that one can spot during Fall is definitely…………. drum roll……………….. (you probably already guessed by the title of the post)………………….. FASHION!

Now, I’m not a TRUE fashionista, the ones that wake up hours earlier than they have to to pick out their outfits for the day, but I enjoy fashion and keeping up with the latest trends. Here are the fall colors that I absolutely adore!

1, Emerald green

Emerald somehow gives a bright pop to the chilly fall weather, and makes you stand out on a dreary day! The color is just so rich and full that it completes an outfit whether it be just an accessory or a belt. It’s refreshing and gives you a “cool look”.

2. Poop brown. Just kidding! … Chocolate brown. 😉

Image

Definitely my favorite color of the season, hands down. Brown is such a comfortable color that gives you a wonderfully “scruffy” look. Wait. Maybe that’s the wrong word. Either way, when you wake up everyday at 6:00 am and fumble around the dark room for something to wear, your hand will automatically go towards the fluffiest, warmest, most comfortable article of clothing you can find on the dresser, and that piece of clothing will almost always be in the color brown for me. Whether it be those chic brown combat boots, that sleek brown bag, the intricate brown belt, or that delightfully baggy brown sweater, brown is the way to go for the chilly Fall weather!

3. Maroon

Image

Okay, maybe I lied earlier. Maroon………. ♥_♥ Such a wondrous color. It’s so hard to choose! Maroon is a dark color, but with a splash of color to brighten up a look. Did that make sense? Sometimes magical things just can’t be described. It always makes me think of Hogwarts and maroon scarves. Team Gryffindor! But anyways, maroon is a great color to have, especially in skinny jeans. If you’re feeling lazy and decide to put on an old t-shirt, maroon skinny jeans always instantly make the outfit more sleek and polished. Maroon boots are amazing as well. It gives a warm look to complement the rest of your outfit, regardless of what color you’re wearing.

4. Mustard yellow

And of course, here comes the yellow! Yellow is my overall favorite color! Maybe not specifically for the fall, but it’s a great color on an outfit, regardless. Its nice and sunny appearance gives a splash of brightness to an outfit and makes you stand out from other people. Not to mention, it’s the color of rain coats as well, which is perfect for the Fall!

HerCampus Ambassadors!

HerCampus Ambassadors!

Video chatting with an extraordinary group of ladies from all across the nation (even in Canada!) that share the same passions as I do for writing and journalism. Feeling blessed and happy to have talked to them and to have found out all of our similar interests. ♥ Let’s make this a great year as Ambassadors, ladies!

You Don’t Know

Coming home and seeing a messy room, I knew that it was about time to finally clean it. After all, a fresh school year = a fresh room… Right? So, I was looking through my old documents and I came across the journal I had a few years back. Turns out, I wrote lyrics to a song I made up. This is from January 12, 2011 (just the rap, HAHA):

I know I gotta get this right off all my chest

I know by saying this, I might be a total pest

But you gotta understand

You gotta know

That before I sleep I will myself

To have you in my dreams

That to me being with you

Is better than sweets or creams

That I memorize the tune

Your digits make on my phone

That to me you are a savior

Just like Arc de Joan

You don’t know

that I write songs about you

Day after Day

Don’t know that I write texts to you

Anxious if they are okay

That your face your smile your words

refuse to exit my mind

That I find myself doodling hearts

with your  name next to mine

You don’t know.

And you never will.

Cheesy, yes? Oh, memories… 🙂

This is My Life

This particular piece I wrote is about my situation with my older brother. He is amazingly intellectual and very successful. He’s studying in the medical field in one of the top colleges in the nation: Berkeley. This poem expresses how I feel sometimes about parents not realizing the pain that their child feels when compared with their sibling. Hopefully, I will be able to touch many of your hearts or spark a feeling of understanding in my fellow younger siblings out there.

A baby is born

The adults scream in delight

They wonder of his future

As he runs to the light

He grows up with care

Constant love that’s undying

The support gives him wings

To the future he’s flying

He runs home

With papers in his hands

Awards and certificates

He has millions of fans

Then the next baby comes by

The adults expect more

Instead of screaming and cheering

They don’t care anymore

She comes home

With her first A

She expects praise and love

But their faces are gray

The expectations

They pile as high as Mount Everest

She must be better

Stronger

Smarter

But no

She finally decided

Realization came and

Now she knows her life’s misguided

So she unlocked the door

Of oppression and greed

And entered a life

Where she herself could succeed

Now she looks in the mirror

And sees her reflection

As a proud young girl

Confident of her perfection

I will be who I am

The one I want to be

I will not follow his footsteps

I will find freedom’s key

I approached hesitantly

Stopping before the door

Unlocking it to greatness

I saw life’s wonders and more

This is my life

And I’m lovin’ it (McDonald’s theme song cue)

* I don’t know where this is from, but I believe it was from a story that I read online. I just thought that this passage was incredibly powerful with amazing uses of imagery and wanted to share it with all of you. 🙂

Sweet temptation beckoning me with its allure

Golden droplets of honey-coated words

The frosty steel shackles broken through with

Love’s sweet hammer of Justice

BANG!

Free.

Randomness

Just something I randomly wrote in my notebook when I was in history class. ^_^

God’s breath of fresh air

envelopes me with his warm hands

The gentle swaying

and rustling

and chirping

are the only things filling my mind now

Eyelids fluttering

life bursting with colors around

My mind is in a deep slumber

However, its eyes have now been opened

Materiality and greed are no more

Corruption diffusing slowly out of me

The purity and clean soul

Only ones left behind

Thoughts of the meaning of life

Seconds ticking by

The disappearance of life

As well as the appearance of newfound memories

Day breaks out.

Why My Voice is Important

This is a prompt for a speech contest that I decided to participate in. I won 2nd place with this speech! 🙂

My mother always told me something when I was younger. Words aren’t just for sassing your mother. “Words mean more than what is set down on paper. It takes the human voice to infuse them with deeper meaning.“ That quote actually came from Maya Angelou. Although Angelou was born long before my mother, my mother always said she admired Angelou. She said she loved Angelou’s confidence and perseverance; that her voice enticed her, had the power to persuade her to do almost anything she wanted. Maya Angelou’s voice is not a typical one. It is deep, croaky, and full of power and meaning. After my mother told me about her love for Angelou’s voice in poetry, I started to look her up myself. I instantly fell in love with Angelou’s charismatic and influential voice. The words that Angelou said with all her heart and passion truly touched me and compelled me to have a different outlook on life. That’s what a voice can do.

You see, your voice has all of this power buried deep inside. Words are just ink printed on processed pieces of trees. How can something like that touch you right here where it counts? You need heart. You need soul. You need emotion behind every single word you utter or else you’re never going to make another person’s heart waver. “I HAD A DREAM”. That one phrase was recognized by every single person in this room. Why? Sure, Martin Luther King Jr. was wise and had a way with words, but had his performance of his speech begun with “I had a dream” (weak) he would not have touched all the hearts of the nation; He would not have sparked a feeling of love and pride in his fellow Negroes. He would not have shaken and provoked the guiltiness of the white men. With those mere 4 words that he spoke, he caused a stir in the entire country and made history. That’s what a voice can do.

Right now, especially, is when students try to find their real identities. They feel like they just blend in with the background. But a voice. A voice is like a fingerprint. It’s unique to you and only you. You were born with this power and beauty all in one. So use it. Work it. My voice can express every single emotion that I keep inside. I love you (lovingly). I LOVE YOU (angry). I love you (sobbing). Those same three words were just expressed in 3 different ways. Imagine how boring a world with the same “I love you”’s would be. Your voice brings color, personality, emotion, strength, weakness, and passion into just a few words. That’s what a voice can do.

I love my voice. I treasure it. I use it to its fullest because I feel blessed to have such a power buried inside my throat. In today’s world, a voice can be transformed into beatboxing, animal sounds, singing, shouting, crying, laughing, and so much more. It’s the instrument of your soul and body that can trump any other musical instruments out there. It represents you as a person and expresses your emotions outwardly to relieve not only yourself but to the person you are speaking to. A voice is magical. A voice is natural; It can’t be changed by plastic surgery. A voice is you. That’s what a voice can do.
